We adopted a 2 year old Shih Tzu 3 months ago. We're pretty sure he was used in shitty backyard breeding as he had no potty training, no aversion to soiling himself or his bed, and didn't understand toys or treats. He's incredibly stubborn and not treat or toy motivated but has started showing interest whenever he deems it appropriate.
At the beginning, he didn't show much interest in the cats. Over time, he has started chasing them when they run (we understand the prey instinct here), but now he's started randomly attacking one of them (the other avoids him at all costs). The attacks don't seem to be causing any physical damage to the cat as he's missing a couple teeth and his k9s are a bit dull and the attacks appear to be completely unprovoked. They can coexist in the same space most of the time without issue.
We're not exactly sure how to train him in general given the lack of motivation, but especially not with this being an inconsistent issue. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
