I’ll be getting a rescue soon and the poor dog has been in a cage all her life. She’s an 8 pound poodle. The adoption agency has said that I should really temper my expectations because she has no idea what the outside world really is and has no idea how to go for a walk let alone potty train outside. They said it could take weeks before I actually bring her outside. It doesn’t help that it’s now -10C where I live. This is obviously very conflicting from everything you read online about bringing your dog outside as soon as possible so that they can build a routine and start to potty outdoors. My goal was to train on pee pads and go outside eventually.
Really need advice for anyone who’s had a puppy mill dog. The adoption agency has had the dog at their facility for 7 months now and even when given an outdoor space, the dogs from this mill didn’t want to go out.
Need advice, guidance, anything!
