Hi, I’m about to move out of my family’s house this summer. I currently have my own dog, and she’s crate trained very well. Usually when I’m not home, I have her crated in my bedroom. However, in June I’m moving into my own apartment and was debating if I should continue crating her while I’m away or letting her have free roam. It is a studio so there’s no option to limit her to one bedroom. There’s also stairs as it’s a townhouse style. I’m nervous about her getting bored and destroying things, or getting into wires. She is two and fairly well behaved, she’s outgrown chewing on my things and even then, did it while I was home and asleep. Does anyone have any experience or advice on transitioning their dog from the crate, OR if I should?
Edit: I don’t have her outside of her crate now, because she would be limited to one room and it felt unfair. The studio is bigger than my current bedroom. I also don’t want her going crazy whenever there are guests over, and she can’t go out and meet them. I have also done tests runs when she’s been uncrated while I ran to the gas station, and she’s sat by my door waiting for me. I wanted her to be able to relax and she settles immediately in her crate when I’m away.
