Tips for getting puppy to pee outside !!

I’ve only had her for five days, so I will be patient but the issue is that I take her out and I know she has to pee, but she will not go outside and waits until we’re back inside. Initially I was taking her out every hour or two but it feels a bit pointless to do it that frequent as I’ve now figured out she just needs to go every four hours.

I’m trying to be better about a routine and keeping a very close eye on her when in my apartment. But when I’m reading her body language as she has to pee (and let’s say we were just outside) and I take her back outside, she still won’t pee.

The instances she has peed outside are when we are at a big field by my house and she’s off leash. But that’s not sustainable for me every time as I work from home and have a lot of meetings. I’ve taken her on hour+ walks and she won’t go. Luckily she has one spot by my house that she will poop, so she’s been going that outside at least.

I’ve been putting her in her crate for naps and some play time during the day but let her sleep with me at night as I just adopted her on Sunday (five days ago) from a rescue and took her away from her seven sisters. So my priority has been making her comfortable and getting her settled in. I’m open to putting her in the crate to sleep at night if anyone thinks that would help, but she sleeps through the night in my bed with me no problem. Doesn’t even ever get up, she just wants to be touching me, so that doesn’t feel like the issue!

My apartment is all carpeted so that’s probably why the potty training feels extra stressful! I haven’t been using pee pads because I’ve seen mixed reviews about them. I’m also not great at reacting when she pees inside (I kinda just freeze) so would appreciate any advice on that as well! I’m open to any thoughts or suggestions!!! Thank you!!!
