Strange behavior from puppy while eating

Please forgive my ignorance, this is my first dog and I'm trying to do right by him. He's a 7-month old rescue, half Shar-Pei and half Blackmouth Cur. Overall, his training is going well, he seems happy, and we get along really well.

The strange behavior I'm referring to is that, while in the middle of eating, he walks over to his bed, sits down for about 3 seconds with his back to the food bowl, and looks up. Then he returns to his bowl to gobble down the rest of his food. Sometimes he does that a couple of times, sometimes he doesn't do it at all but it never lasts for more than a few seconds.

At first I thought his kibble was too dry for him to swallow easily, so I've started to soak some of it in warm water. He definitely eats it more enthusiastically, but that strange thing he does hasn't stopped. I'm at a complete loss about what he's trying to tell me…
