I've been a customer of The Foggy Dog for 5+ yrs. I prefer their leashes as the rope style is most comfortable on my hand/ wrist, they are easy to clean in the wash when dirty, & the clip and hardware (brass) is easy to use and seem nearly indestructible. Originally I purchased the "Petite" (thinner rope) 4' long leashes, back when they also offered a 6' length. A few years ago they reduced their offering to one length of 5', no more 4' of 6' lengths. I've bought a few 5" leashes but they are just too long for me & my dog. She's short (a mini dachshund) and I'm average height 5'5" and often the 5' length leashes are dragging on the ground when she is walking close to me, which is most of the time as we live in NYC. So, I've had to create a big cumbersome knot in those leashes to shorten them, which is not ideal, & I haven't purchased any new ones as the longer 5' length is inconvenient. Thus I would LOVE to know, has anyone been successful in opening up the brass hardware at the handle, shortening the rope and closing it back up, with out it breaking, and remaining secure? Or do you know of a resource who works this type of "marine grade" hardware & may be able to do it? I've included images of my "original" leashes, tan & grey, and the newer 5' long pink as references. Appreciate any suggestions!
