I’ve had my 7-month-old Sheltie for 5 months now. Ever since we got her, she has been very vocal and barks a lot. She doesn’t bark much at the usual things like people ringing the doorbell, loud noises, etc., but she barks excessively to get attention. She wants something to be happening all the time—either training or play.
My partner and I have tried ignoring her when she barks for attention, but we’ve been doing that for 5 months now and we’re starting to feel desperate. We’ve also tried putting her in another room, but that doesn’t help either. If she gets mental stimulation, she starts barking again as soon as the activity is over because she wants more. She has a very hard time just lying down and relaxing. If we move around the house, she follows us everywhere, even if she was lying down sleeping.
It’s taking a toll on our mental health that she barks so much. Does anyone have any suggestions for what we can do?
