Senior dog scared of noises

It all started with a hole puncher, about 2 years ago. She heard the loud click of the thing and immediate bolted downstairs where she stayed for 30 minutes, she was shaking, and we couldn't get through to her at all. It very slowly started to escalate to beeping noises, anything with a high enough pitch sent her into panic mode, so we did everything we could to avoid beeping.

Recently, probably over the last 3 months or so, sounds that aren't even that loud frighten her, it can be a low beep from the car when we're pressing the breaks, someone dropping something in the other room or even rummaging through utensils.

I talked to the vet about this and they said it's not uncommon for older dogs to become sound-phobic, but they didn't prescribe anything to help. Should I ask again if I could get some anti-anxiety meds for her, or should I try something else?
