Recommendations for adjusting to dog losing his hearing?

Hello,

My senior dog Tommy turned 13 last year, and in the last year or so he’s been losing his hearing. He’s had his regular checkups with his vet and there isn’t an issue with his ears, the vet says it’s just old age and something that we’ll have to adapt to.

I don’t know how much hearing he’s lost but I’d say he only has 30 to 20% still left, maybe even less. He used to come when we called his name, even when asleep, or when he heard the door, but now we physically have to touch him or gently shake him if he is asleep to get his attention, he only hears us if we shout at him but we prefer not to shout to not bother our other dog who is much younger.

Any recommendations on what to do or not to do as we adjust to our hard of hearing dog as time goes on? We’ve had a senior dog in the past but he still had his hearing until the day he passed, so this is very new to us. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
