Hi y’all –
I’ll be adopting my first dog as an adult with my partner (we’re in our 30s) this weekend, and it’s hitting me kinda hard. We’ve been discussing it for a while, casually searching over the last few months, and now are in the final stages of getting a rescue dog that’s been in foster care for a while. We’re meeting him Sunday, and will likely be bringing him home that night.
The rescue we’re working with seems incredibly thorough and caring, and by all accounts he seems like a perfect fit for us. I’m just getting anxious about the reality of it – if he’ll like me, how he’ll deal with a new home (again), upkeep on training, melding our lives overall. I’m very committed, but it’s such a big change.
I just wanted to reach out to hear others experience with first time adoption and how the transition went for you, how your fears or anxieties were quelled, and any advice you might have.
Thank you so much 💙
