Puppy whining – tips?

Hi everyone,

We got a 8.5 week Corgi puppy 2 days ago and I’m trying so hard to not have puppy blues but I’m heartbroken to hear her whine every time I leave the room. We have a 9 year old Corgi at home who is very indifferent and honestly I’ve forgotten all about the puppy stage.

I just need reassurance on what can I do to make it easier or some tips on what I should be doing.

I take her out frequently to the backyard and work on our toilet training, I play with her and do some short intervals of training and then I pop her back into her pen where she has a crate which she’s in only overnight.

I’m away about an hour in the mornings to drop my daughter to school and drive back.

She whines for about 5-7 mins and then usually falls asleep and I try to ignore it because I’d figure she’s probably tired as well but gets interrupted sleep because our older Corgi will bark at a leaf going by.

Is there anything I could be doing or not doing?
