Puppy poops in his crate… every time.

We have an 11 week old Bernese Mountain Dog that has very quickly figured out potty training when he’s not in his crate. Always whines at the door to go outside and hasn’t had an accident in the house for a little over a week now. EXCEPT when we crate him. At night, during the day, any time he is crated no matter how long he is put in there even if he just went poop prior to putting him in there. For example, I just put him in his crate so I could shower and dress. Made sure he went pee and poop outside before that. Came to let him out and there’s poop in there. At night we wake up twice during the middle of the night for potty breaks and he has peed and popped in his crate at least once every night as well.

I need to be able to crate him but this is getting exhausting cleaning up the crate after every use, not to mention he keeps sitting in it and it gets all over him which is obviously very messy to deal with.

Any suggestions???
