Just to say I’ve had dogs my whole life, but my parents did the puppy stages, and when I’ve had dogs as an adult, we have rescued and they weren’t puppies.
We are getting a puppy at the end of November, and I’m just thinking ahead to the first few weeks. I have a toddler who I am a stay at home mum to, but we go to various groups and classes during the week. They usually last about an hour/hour and a half and are local to us so that would be the longest we would be out.
We are planning to crate train but I wasn’t sure about leaving her for an hour to an hour and a half the first wee while she’s here? Do I build up to leaving her that long? Or have my mum come and check on her half way through?
Other question is where she should sleep – we will have a crate downstairs so she has a space to go to away from toddler but I co-sleep with toddler and my husband sleeps in our room and we swap at weekends so everyone gets some sleep. I don’t particularly want the puppy waking the toddler and vice versa, so maybe she should be in our bedroom and that person be responsible for taking her out if she needs etc?
Thanks! I’m maybe overthinking but that’s what I do 🙂
