I just had to share this happy news with people who might understand!
My almost 12 week beagle pup has been home for three weeks and I’ll be honest it has been a bit of a struggle but this weekend it seems like there’s been a breakthrough between him and his older brother (1.5 year old beagle) and how they’re getting along. For a solid 10-15 minutes this evening, they were both quietly chewing on separate chews in separate beds near each other, completely calmly. No growling, no trying to steal the chews from each other, no constant chasing or bitey face, etc! It was so fantastic I just sat there watching them do it and I felt such relief.
My older pup has been mostly fine but in the beginning he definitely did not seem too happy with having to share the house with the new puppy, and likes to play a little rough sometimes (always supervised and I advocate for him and the puppy and keep them separate except for short supervised times during the day). I have been so worried that I made the biggest mistake and that they would hate each other. But after tonight I honestly think it’ll be okay. 😭🥺
