I recently adopted a 3 year old Jack Russell mix from the local pound. I was told that he was potty trained etc, but he had been re-homed twice. I thought that maybe it was due to his high energy, but boy was I wrong!
Within the approx 6 weeks that I have had him, he has developed a pretty decent attachment with me, amazing at first, but now if I leave the room, he will pee everywhere! Even if I take him outside and he’s fine, he somehow musters up enough to pee somewhere in my house. Not only that, but he pees if he doesn’t get the food that I have, or if he doesn’t get immediate attention.
It has been so frustrating, I feel like I’ve tried everything. I’ve tried potty training him again with all the positive reinforcement in the world, treats and a lot of “good boy!” But nothing has seemed to work for the long term. Last week he was doing amazing, no peeing in the house at all. But starting yesterday, he has started “angrily” (I know that isn’t the correct term but I have no idea how else to put it) when he doesn’t get his way. There were no environmental changes at all, so I don’t know why he’s started it again.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I’m not really in the market for extreme behavioral training but I will do it if I have to! I absolutely love him to bits, he’s the sweetest little guy, but the peeing has to stop.
Any advice is greatly appreciated!!
I know dogs don’t understand revenge, it was my only way of wording it
