I really need help. I adopted a 2.5 year old Australian Shepherd last week from a breeder who I'm realizing didn't take good care of her. She is skittish and absolutely terrified of everything, hasn't been socialized and gets freaked out if I even breathe wrong. She was kept in an outdoor kennel so doesn't know how to be in a house without being scared.
I found fleas on her face so as much as I wanted to hold off on bathing her to let her settle in before anything like that, this was an emergency. I found 11 fleas on her and a couple around the house on furniture. We have carpet too which is making me really worried. On top of all this, I am 26 weeks pregnant so I'm trying to avoid spraying any harsh chemicals.
So far I gave her Nexguard, Interceptor and Capstar this morning. Bathed her with half dish soap half dog shampoo and rinsed thoroughly. She looks so scared of me and traumatized. What can I do to address the fleas? She also has the runs from being stressed out but other than that haven't changed her diet. This poor girl is so sweet and innocent but so utterly scared Im worried about traumatizing her and undoing all the work I've been doing this week to gain her trust. We were making good progress where even though she was scared, she was starting to be my shadow and see me as a safe person. How do I get rid of fleas without traumatizing her??
FYI She has a vet appointment for a general check up this Friday but thats the earliest we could get.
