Old blind shih-tzu won’t stop climbing on stuff and getting stuck

I have a fifteen year-old shih-tzu, so he's pretty old. He's also blind due to severe cataracts.

I live in a small apartment, and I have a flat-topped printer that's 11 inches tall that is the source of this problem. It sits near my chair and my dog loves hanging out next to me. He often climbs on top of this printer. Because he's blind, he get scared that he can't step off it safely and so gets "stranded".

He used to do this with my chair but after a while realized the consequences and stopped that. Not with the printer. He will climb it, get stranded, get pushed off (so he can feel his feet touch the ground so he should know it's not high) and he will immediately climb onto it and get stranded again. I don't know how long he'll stay there when I'm not working from home. He hasn't learned not to climb on the printer unlike the chair.

Because the apartment is small, my desk is small, barely able to hold the computer I'm typing on. (My keyboard is literally sitting in my lap.) In other words I can't just put the printer where he can't reach it. Furthermore it's not a wi-fi printer, so it has to be near the computer. (Otherwise I'd put it in a tiny room that my dog isn't allowed to go in.)

Any tips? I tried looking this kind of thing on Google and got nowhere.
