Hi everyone,
Location: Melbourne, VIC
I reside in Victoria, Australia, & have already spoken to both my local council & the police about this situation, but it’s ongoing.
I’m dealing with a neighbour situation that’s been escalating. Their dog is reactive, & both the husband & wife repeatedly bring it right up to my fence. Yesterday, I caught the husband at our fence feeding my dog and his own while his dog was snapping angrily at mine. I told him, “You need to move away,” & he pretended not to hear me. He only walked off after his dog managed to aggressively push open our gate.
The wife often comes onto my property, yelling, hurling insults, & mocking me & my autistic child. This has happened multiple times a week, including when we’re just returning from a run, like today. She waited to apparently have 'a civil conversation'. I said 'no, you need to stand back'. To which she refused & began hurling insults. She mocks our disabilities & refuses to respect basic boundaries. She only left today as I began recording her on my phone.
I’ve tried setting limits, putting up signs, & the police advised me to call 000 & record interactions. I’ve also bought an outdoor security camera to document everything.
I want to make sure they cannot continue approaching my fence, harassing me, or putting my child & dog at risk. I can’t get a personal safety intervention order without knowing her exact address. The police recommended the Personal Safety Order.
My dog is friendly, & everyone else in the neighbourhood loves him. He is an emotional support dog but will protect us if someone trespasses.
Has anyone dealt with a neighbour like this? What practical, legal, or preventative steps can I take to protect my property, my child, & my dog without escalating the conflict further?
