My two Golden Retriever puppies are playing too rough – need advice

Hi everyone, I’m looking for some advice.

I have a 2-month-old Golden Retriever named Kali. She was separated from her mom too early, so she didn’t learn proper bite inhibition, and she tends to bite pretty hard. I’ve been working on training her and she has improved, but we’re still working on it.

Right now, I’m taking care of my cousin’s 3-month-old Golden Retriever, Sussie, for a few days while he’s traveling for Carnival. She’s staying at my house because there’s no one else who can watch her.

The problem is that Kali gets extremely overexcited around Sussie. Sussie is fairly calm (for a Golden puppy), but Kali goes completely crazy as soon as she sees her. She clearly wants to play, but she doesn’t know how to do it appropriately. She jumps on her, bites, and doesn’t seem to understand when to stop. It quickly turns into what looks more like a wrestling match than normal puppy play.

Because of this, I’ve been keeping them separated most of the time. My brother helps me supervise, but my house isn’t very big and I can’t realistically keep them separated 24/7. Also, they’ll likely see each other often in the future, so I’d really like them to learn how to interact properly.

Is this normal puppy behavior? And what’s the best way to manage or improve this situation?
