We have a Belgian malinois who grew up with our other dog. Our other older dog was rejuvenated when we got our Malinois and aged slower. She passed away three years ago and since our Belgian has been a single dog. She’s 9 years old now. We figured getting a puppy could help her age slower but we were wrong. Our Malinois is reactive with large dogs but we Figuered a puppy was all right since she’d get to know it. We got a three month old puppy mix from the shelter and they got along at the introduction but our malinois is so disgusted by her in a sense. She isn’t agressive but she’s irks away when she’s near, she never fully relaxes when she’s around, she doesn’t like sharing her toys (we’ve gotten loads of new toys), and in general she seems so annoyed by the puppy. I feel so so so much guilt over this. We got her in the beginning of December hoping they’d adjust to each other but things haven’t changed. I feel like I’ve ruined my dogs golden years. Is there a way to overcome this? I cannot get rid of the new puppy because my family has gotten attached and it’s not her fault. has anyone experienced this? I feel horrible and guilty and right now I regret my decision so much.
