So we're at a point where our 7mo old 50lb Golden can only be walked by myself which reduces the amount of time he's getting exercise, which is really sad to us I can't quit my job to take him 3x a day. He's generally just a normal puppy on walks but there's a 70% chance he has a full freakout once (usually after a no because he's getting a mouth full of grass on some neighbor's lawn) but a 100% chance it happens as we approach our house. Prior to his outbursts he just walks normally and has been progressing well with loose leash training, we're able to get him to lock in for about 50% of walks following his mom and checking in with her regularly.
Reason he can't go with others anymore is three-fold. His over-stim includes a full blown pup-nado, he knows how to get out of his harness > tries, and he starts biting hard, lunging at whoever's arm/hand.
We have tried many things at this point… treats, command sessions (dog is insanely smart, knows 18 already!), playing prior to walks, feeding prior to walks, make sure he poops/pees prior to walks, holding the leash vertical in an effort to calm him, and others I'm probably forgetting.
It's just at this point as he has gotten to 50lbs I'm the only person who can handle his outbursts without him drawing blood. Last time I needed to pick him up and carry him home after failing to calm him for a few minutes in front of a neighbor's house. We feel like we've tried just about everything I've read here so just hoping anyone had other tips we could try. This dog is SO lovely, it's just his excitement/stimulation outburts are a pup possessed.
