Little to no progress with Potty Training

I have a 12 week old Giant Schnauzer and I’m at a loss for what to do for potty training. I have potty trained so many dogs before and usually by this point, notice some progress with bladder control.

Please tell me what I’m doing wrong. My puppy has his last call for water at about 7:30 pm and we do a potty break. After which, he goes in his crate. We do a potty break at 8:30pm then again at 10:45 . After which, he goes out every 3 hours. First at 1:15 am, again at 4:00am and again at 6:30am.

Well tonight, he went out at slightly different times at 8:15, 9:15, and 10:30 because he was whining, which he typically doesn’t do in his crate at this time. He did pee the last two times he went out. At 1:00am, before I could wake up, I smell his urine from across the room and woke up instantly. He had peed all over his crate and was fully laying in it. I took him out, and he pooped. Now I’m sitting here trying to figure out what I’m doing wrong.

The reason his times are slightly staggered and not every 3 hours on the dot is because i try to wake up in time to catch any accidents instead of pushing him to his limit.

Something else that was different tonight, normally when he goes outside in the middle of the night, he’s very sleepy and will potty then come sit next to me as if to say “Back to bed pls” but tonight, he was bursting with energy. I had to chase him from chewing a stick bc no one has time for that at 1am.

This puppy bubble is killing me bc I can’t exercise him enough so maybe he’s going to bed with too much energy?

He did have a urinary tract issue about 2 weeks ago. Not an infection but just inflammation. In which he was going anywhere, at any given time and we couldn’t track it. That seems to have cleared up but what has remained his pungent urine smell and unpredictable potty schedule. Lastly, his crate divider is as far as it will go to ensure he doesn’t have too much space but I fear it still may be too much.

Overall, I feel like we’re still having accidents when he goes outside almost every 30 minutes to an hour during the day. Which I expect but since his UT thing I feel like we’re regressing in training. I swear if I don’t go back to sleeping at least 4 hours at a time, I’m going to lose my mind!

Should we go back down to every two hours? I’m also inconsistent with the treat/praise thing when he goes outside if we’re going out in the middle of the night. Most times in my sleep haze, I forget to grab a treat on my way out.
