We did this for the first time today.
I’m wondering what success looks like and how to tell that he’s ready to be out of the crate for longer periods? He is 8.5 months old
He only had access to the living room. We left him with a fun chew and were gone for about 20 minutes. He didn’t have an accident or chew on anything or get into other trouble. But, I do think he was stressed. I had the camera on the entire time to see how he was. He howled once and paced around the room. He did settle & lay down for about 3 minutes. He didn’t touch his chew until we got back.
How do we get to the point where we can leave him for 4 hours out of the crate? I was thinking about leaving him once a week, on a weekend, for 20 minutes. Once he is fine with that, increase it to 30. Continue this until we are at the 4 hour mark. Does this seem like a good strategy? Should we do it more than once a week?
