I’m at my wits end. Anyone have tips for keeping the dog off the dinner table? I have a 7 pound chihuahua mix that is about 1 years old. For the last few weeks, she jumps onto a chair and onto the dinner table. Not when we are there. After we eat, in the middle of the day, anytime we are not sitting around it. And yes, I do supervise her and confine her when I can’t. But of course I can’t keep her prisoner, and there are times when I am busy with my kids and she takes advantage of that time. What HAS worked is one of those electric collars. I will trigger it when she goes near the table to jump on the chair, and now she has learned. HOWEVER, she has associated that with me (if I am home she will not jump on the table). Now, the only times she will jump on the table are when I am at work or in the shower. This is really taking a toll on my mental heath because anytime this dog isn’t caged, I’m focused on supervising her and watching thru the camera that she doesn’t jump on the dinner table. Because I think that’s a disgusting habit! Our dinner table is our clean safe space! I should be able to leave a cup of cofffee and not worry about the dog knocking it down to drink it! Or licking the table. Or taking my food if I need to run to the bathroom. I’ve tried EVERYTHING. positive reinforcement, awarding her for positive behavior, awarding her when she doesn’t go to the bathroom table, you name it. HELP.
