For the people who are in constant stress every day like I was. Where the normalcy of life looked like it would never come back. My Irish Setter Bambi is right around the 1.5 y/o mark and I am going to be honest,
She
Was
A
Demon
For so long!
She wouldn’t sleep outside her crate until 10 months, and would constantly get into things. I thought there was a problem with the dog, I thought she was just high strung. But I took advice from here and people I know.
The most important thing I learned is to understand what is best for my dog. It’s easy as a person to think what I’m communicating is clear and easy, but dogs sometimes need baby steps. Sometimes learning to not take every single toy out of the box is a multi-part process where she doesn’t even see the box at first.
But take the time, learn to speak your dogs language and you’ll see them thrive and have such a strong bond form. You’ll have a family member AND a normal life and the pay-off is worth all the counter surfing, barking, and destruction of the past.
So for those who are struggling. Step back, look at how beautiful and how much you love your dog, and take a second to understand what they need to be the dog they’re meant to become.
And I promise, one day your life will go back to normal and you’ll look back on their antics and miss the little shit.
