Is this just part of Puppy Blues??

Hi! Owner of a 4.5 month old bichon. We've had him since he was 9 weeks. Overall, he is a good dog. Taking to potty training relatively well. Sleeping through the night in his crate, etc. I have always LOVED dogs. I had several growing up and my algorithm is filled with The Dogist and We Rate Dogs :).

When we got this pup I had assumed / hoped to have a deep connection with him, however, I truly just feel like the caretaker. I can't say that I love him, rather I go through the motions of being a good dog owner and raising him. Is this just part of Puppy Blues? Once we make it through the puppy / adolescent stage, will the love develop??
