Is it too early to free roam?

Hey everyone, we have a 6.5 month old lab puppy, and little by little, his time in the crate has been decreasing everyday. He doesn’t chew up everything in the house anymore other than occasionally licking the plants. But our house is puppy proof to some degree, as it doesn’t have anything particularly dangerous for him to chew on out in the open. He was completely potty trained in about 3 weeks, and hasn’t had an accident since. We still crate him in the morning, but I have a very flexible job, and I get back at about 12, and he isn’t crated until bedtime. When he is out, he sleeps most of the time or plays with his toys. We are used to leaving him out of his crate when we run to the grocery store or whatnot, but was wondering if changing to completely free roaming would be a bad idea. I check on him through the camera when I leave him out and he really just sleeps or chews on his toys, and then sleeps again. I was really expecting to slowly phase out of crating him when he fully matured at about 2 or 3, but he is already doing so well outside of the crate. Any opinions would be appreciated.
