My girl is around 16 years old and has been having some incontinence and urgency issues. I’d say 70% of the time we can get her outside no problem, but the other 30% is an accident indoors. We make it a habit to let her out every time she gets up from lying down. The trouble is, if we aren’t right there in the room with her the second she gets up, game over. Mobility isn’t an issue. She is in relatively good shape for a super senior and can easily access the outside area. She’s not leaking urine, so it’s not a situation where a diaper is warranted. It’s simply that she can no longer hold it like she used to.
Is it possible to train her that, if there’s no one letting her out, then a pee pad is the place to go? I imagine it would get really confusing if I encouraged her to pee inside and then suddenly went back to letting her out as normal.
Any advice would be awesome. My house is 90% hardwood or tile floors, so you know she aims for the one nearby area rug. If it’s how it has to be, my old lady is worth it. I’m just getting tired of dragging out the SpotBot and having my house always smell faintly of dog pee no matter what urine odor destroyers I try!
