Introducing puppy to a reactive dog – Christmas help

This is going to be our puppy’s first Christmas with us and we’re in a difficult spot deciding what to do.

The usual rundown for Chirstmas is we open presents at home, and then take my partners daughter to her mums to open presents there, from there we go to his parents for the rest of the day.

The issue we have is that his parents have a reactive-aggressive dog to other dogs. She’s previously bit another dogs ear off (they spoke to the vet at the time and as it was a one off there was no need to put her down). She does play with the dog next door but that’s with a fence between them, and will bark and pull at dogs she sees on walks but hasn’t done anything since that incident.

My partners parents got her at a year old from a dog home, she was found on the side of the road so sadly no known history of what she went through before that.

My partners parents initially said she would be muzzled/in the garden so our puppy can come round for the day but we’ve talked them out of this since it wouldn’t be fair to their dog. And would still run the risk of scaring our pup and making her reactive, the muzzle won’t stop her going for our dog just stop her getting bitten.

Does anyone have any tips or advice?

The reactive dog is a genuine sweetheart, if you met her you’d have no idea she had issues with other dogs. It would be great to know if anyone’s had a similar issue and how they support reactive dogs.

Just to add if we have any concerns at all they will not be introduced and potentially never meet, but this is what we do on Christmas so it would be good to know if this is something we can work towards next year if this years a no go.
