HOW with enforced naps

We have had our whippet pup for roughly 11 weeks now and have crate trained him from day one of getting him.

He doesn't mind jumping in and out of the crate, hunting for treats in there, having dinner in there (door closed), drinking, licky mats, chasing toys. But if we put him in there for a nap when he's tired (or over tired) he just screams and cries and bats at the crate walls, trying to dig in the corners…

He just won't go down without a massive fight and it's driving me insane. He's so so so good with everything now, but his teakettle cry is just too much to bear.

His naps are always following an hour and a half of up time of big play or walks or something big and stimulating, followed by snuffle or bone chewing for calming, pee and then in the crate.

We have tried to establish a routine for naps based on his regular daily behaviour of getting tired at certain times, so there is a schedule but that's done nothing.

The only time he accepts the crate with very little protest is at night time bedtime.

Any tips???
