I know there are a lot of the same answers when it comes to make a puppy pen a safe space but the thing is this
So our pup is now 11w and when it comes to staying alone she does pretty fine in her crate. She just sleeps and when we come home she acts like it's a normal thing super proud of her but she eats 4 times a day. So in my break of 12pm I go home and let her eat and walk. But i work from 9am and my girlfriend works in shifts so the alone time varies but in this case max 4hours. And even though she do it just fine we really want her to see the pen as a normal thing and in a later case be able to do a pee or poop or have a little stretch in the pen while we work because I can't always come over in my break to relief her forever.
So she cries a bit at first, maybe moves the pen a bit because she is active but i get the feeling she doesn't see it yet as a good place… we always give her food in the pen and she knows it by now. But what did you do to make a pen fun or safe space? we really don't want to force things or make it something negative but we want to slowly let her have more space to move when we are gone or play by herself maybe
we also keep an eye out with a camera when she is alone to check from time to time
