How are you guys managing outdoor time before they actually have a solid recall?

My corgi is officially obsessed with the yard, but his recall is… well, non-existent if there’s a stray leaf blowing in the wind.

I’m trying to balance safety with letting him actually explore, but I’m struggling a bit with the logistics. Right now we’re rotating between long-line leashes (which he constantly trips over with those short legs) and a heavy-duty playpen setup for "unsupervised" chill time while I’m gardening.

I see a lot of people mentioning setups from MidWest or FXW, but I ended up getting a modular metal one from Garvee because I needed something tall enough to stop the "corgi hops" but sturdy enough not to blow over. It’s been a lifesaver for my sanity, but I feel like he’s getting bored of the confined space already.

Curious how others handled this "teenage" stage? Did you rely more on long lines or pens? Any "I wish I knew this sooner" tips for yard safety?
