Is there anyone who's had experience maybe with teaching a dog how to tell when another dog is attempting to play with them? Cause as far as I can tell my pup knows how to play in ways dogs normally do but struggles to know when a dog is trying to play with him. He currently 2. Shih Tzu minature poodle mix if that makes any difference.
I struggled to socialize my dog as much as I like when I got him. It's not like he wasn't being socialized but he's a small dog (15lb full grown) and finding dogs he could interact with safely was tough. I did my best to try and teach him about how to play chase and doing "play bows". His favorite game is to just have be chase him with a ball or for me to take his and run. I introduced wrestling to him making sure I taught him how to respect others when they aren't wanting to play or if he plays too rough. And he has done well when play wrestling with our 15lb main coon mix cat. But any time a dog tries to entice him to play, either with play bows or by taking his ball he just looks at them like he doesn't understand what they are trying to do or will ask me to get his ball. Just today he attempted to get me to chase him around and it caught the interest of another dog his size who came over asking to play by play bowing and then running around past him to try and get him to and chase. all my dog did was look confused and dropped his ball for me to throw.
Edit. I thought it might be worth mentioning he is interested in other dogs pretty sure he had a crush on another shih Tzu but has never figured out play. Cause any dogs hes been interested interacting with didn't want to play.
