I just got a puppy on Thursday 11/20/25! I have been mentally preparing for a year so when I connected with a puppy I pulled the trigger without thinking much. I have read that stability and consistency is key but I just realized I got her a week before Thanksgiving and my family has big Thanksgiving meal I cannot miss (only happens every few years). Thankfully it is close by (about 8 min away). I am not sure what to do with her for Thanksgiving! There will be kids but the youngest is 5 and a half so not tiny and they have been around some dogs before. It will likely be an all day affair (8 hours?).
Do I bring her over in a play pen? Do I bring her over in a crate? Do I leave her at home in her crate and drive back every couple hours to let her out? I don't want her to get over stimulated especially with her surgery still healing. Help! I'm sure I am over thinking this but I'd really appreciate some guidance.
About her: She is 15 weeks old and about 12 lbs. She was spayed on 11/17/25 and has a plastic cone on with instructions to keep on until 11/28. I think she is a terrier mix with maybe some whippet. Very treat/food motivated and compliant with some prompting (which I'm sure is just normal puppy behavior)
About me: I am a first time dog owner and live alone. I work from home about 4 days a week. I am an anxious person and I want to be a great dog dad and know I have a lot to learn. I am planning to hire a trainer too from Rover (they gave me a coupon for them with her adoption)
