Hi everyone,
I have an almost 4-year-old Flat-Coated Retriever. Ever since we got him, he has whined in the car, but only when he realized where we were going (for example, the woods or my parents-in-law).
Lately, though, the whining has become constant during car rides, and we’re not sure how to address it. He rides in the cargo/trunk area of the car.
It seems to be excitement-related rather than anxiety, because once he’s tired after playing, he is quiet in the car. We’ve tried ignoring the behavior and correcting it, but neither has helped so far.
Does anyone have advice on how to help him stay calm during car rides?
