having doubts about letting my puppy free-roam in my room overnight

i have had my 8-week old dachshund for about a week now and i absolutely love him to bits! hes good with staying in his pen (with the occasional whining ofc) and napping as much as he can in one day, althought he does get extra agitated with the pen in the afternoon and it sometimes bothers me enough that i can't get some schoolwork done ☚ī¸ but i know he's just a baby and wants to play so i can work with it (i do let him out for an 30min-1hr here and there when im able to fully supervise him)

my dilemma is i have the playpen downstairs, where he stays for majority of the day, and my brother and i had agreed that he'll sleep in either of our rooms for the night since we don't want him on his own, we also decided against crate training as we feel bad that he'd have to be shut in a crate again after being in a playpen for most of the day đŸĨ˛ so he basically free roams around the bedroom until he falls asleep which had been working for the first 3 days, he'd fall asleep after about 15 mins of playing and roaming around my room, however recently he's been extra destructive with some of the furniture and the wires, so studying in my room at night becomes rlly difficult since i feel like i need to keep an eye on him until he decides to go to bed. what has worked sometimes is just turning the lights off and ignoring when he starts to whine because he wants me to play with him. he also wakes up at like 5am which i understand is because on school days i wake up around the same time so i can take him downstairs, have him potty, and feed him breakfast before i go to school so i can live with that i guess.

i am just pretty torn on how our nightly routine should be since i'm worried about letting him free roam around my room at night. is it okay to let him sleep in his pen downstairs? or is there any way i can have him stay in my room and still do my work?

please be nice! 😭 i just dont want my puppy to resent me hahaha
