First puppy, Need advice

Sooo I’ve had experience with dogs before when we had a family dog but this is my first very own puppy.

I’m a little lost on what to do training wise… he came home two days ago and I was advised to do baby gates instead of a crate for him which I could see pros and cons of both but I’m now really not sure if I made the right decision.

A little bit of info: he is a golden retriever, 8 weeks and 5 days old at the moment so he’s starting the teething and biting which I’m not all too worried about because he seems to know to bite the toys more than me(I still get the occasional nibble). I live in a 2 bed apt on the bottom floor which I know isn’t ideal for dogs. This pup will be trained to be a service dog eventually due to my disabilities so he will have to go for training courses once he’s had his second round of vaccines.

Toilet training is going okay so far? I’d estimate maybe 80% of the time he goes on the pads, 20% of the time he has the accidents. His naps are chaos which I know him not having a crate doesn’t help… he seems to wake up for an hour or 2 then naps for 30-45mins then it’s a constant cycle.

I’m really just looking for advice on what I should be doing…
