We’re doing an enforced napping schedule with our pup, he’s currently 12 weeks old. 1.5 hrs awake, 2 hrs napping, repeat throughout the day.
He doesn’t always sleep the full 2 hours, he’ll wake up if he hears a noise, etc etc. I’d estimate he sleeps about 60-70% of his 2 hr nap window.
When he’s awake, of course he can lay down whenever he wants, but he rarely puts himself down for a nap, hence why we’re enforcing it.
That said, there have been a few times where at the end of his 2 hr nap window, he’s still fast asleep. I have been gently waking him up & he’s happy to wake up and come out of his crate and play, but I’m wondering if I should be letting him nap for as long as his body naturally wants to? Like he must be tired if he’s still sleeping at the end of 2 hrs?
But I’m also concerned letting him nap however long will cause issues at bedtime/with sleeping through the night.
Currently, he usually wakes up about once in the middle of the night & we take him to the bathroom if he won’t settle.
Thanks!
