Dog Acting Strangely

hello everyone i hope you are doing well. i'm writing this as a follow up post in a way to a post i made on a different subreddit. so the tlrd of everything is my dog keeps alerting to the stairs in my town house. he was doing this and whimpering at the same time but has since stopped the whimpering. whenever he does this i let him up the stairs (there's a baby gate to prevent him from going up there on his own as he still has some destructive tendencies i'm training him out of) he just goes and lays on my bed. he also only does this when i am home alone he won't do it when my house mate is here. i'm wondering what he is trying to tell me and why he keeps acting in this manner. he is a two year old husky shepherd mix and has been doing this for a few weeks at this point. nothing has changed in the house and there's nothing odd that i can find after several sweeps of the house. if anyone has any advice i would greatly appreciate it. thank you in advance.
