Hi everyone, I’m a first time GSD owner and my little girl is almost 14 weeks old. I’ve owned quite a few dogs throughout my life, but they were always family pets where the responsibility was shared. This is the first dog that’s fully mine and I really want to do right by her. I’ve known about bloat for a while, but now that I own my own GSD my anxiety about it has been through the roof. I try to do everything right. No play after meals, limiting water for about 30 minutes after eating, and no water right after hard exercise. I know gastroplexy is an option, but it’s been really hard to find a vet in my area that does it. I did manage to get a number for a specialist, but it looks like it’s going to cost thousands. I’m a broke college student, but I’m very willing to pay to get her insured if it helps even a little. I guess I’m just trying to figure out if I’m being paranoid or overthinking this, what people’s general thoughts are on gastropexy surgery, and if anyone has advice or personal experience they’re willing to share. I’d really appreciate it.
