Bailey is an alleged 13weeks old. I got her Thursday afternoon.
Thursday and most of yesterday, we kinda just let her stay in the pen, and letting her just explore play, etc. Last night we decided to start enforcing the crate.
I’ve got my timer set to take her out for two hours, but I also have been letting her spend two hours outside her crate at night. And that so far seems to be working. Im in no rush. Our first dog picked it up after a few months of us sending him to bed after dinner. I know she’s going to pick it up sooner or later. She’ll usually settle after like 5-10 mins of yelling and whining, chill for about as long and then rinse and repeat.
She still has her puppy teeth, but she doesn’t seem too interested in the treats I give her. I’ll be trying different things, maybe something softer. I also free fed her yesterday, but I’m putting her on the house schedule today, Morning and night, except she’s gonna get another round of food in the middle of the day.
I guess the obvious answer is use her food as treats, but if someone has some insight on what could help? She really likes being with me and held, so I’m also making sure to include pets and verbal praise.
If I need to change my method, I will, but I’m also looking for some more insight to help.
