I live in a city with tons of feral cats as well as cats whose owners let them roam outside unsupervised, which is unfortunately legal here. And of course they feel like the pets they let outside without supervision is everyone else’s responsibility except theirs. But that’s another rant.
My sweet, gentle dog, who is not reactive to anything except squirrels and cats, will lunge towards any cat within what she considers lunging distance. Cats can and do hide anywhere they want — in bushes, under cars, etc. — and I also don’t really see them if they’re not in my direct field of vision. Luckily cats see her coming even if I don’t spot them before she does, but there have definitely been a few close calls.
Any city-dwellers care to share any tips for keeping your dog away from cats?
