Advice for aggressive play moments

I have had my 8 week old Whippit, Ozzie, for a week now and all have been pretty smooth. He’s a puppy for sure, but nothing out of the ordinary. He is super smart and learning well.

He is my first whippet (and my first puppy in 10 years and on my own) so I wanted to see if this behavior is normal/ if there is any advice for it.

He will grab onto the hem of my pants and start placing tug of war, but he is biting down hard and will not let go for anything, I end up having to pry his mouth open and the he gets very angry and starts to bark and be snappy and whip around in an almost aggressive way. He isn’t a particularly aggressive puppy, so it’s jarring to see him get so riled up and act aggressively. The only thing I can do to calm his is pick him up (air jail). He’s done this to me twice and my young nephew once and it’s a behavior I really want to train out of him. Any advice? Is this normal for the breed?
