My female golden retriever is approaching 1 year and wow is she becoming more and more of a handful. I am starting a group obedience class but not until January due to my schedule. My wife and I are struggling with the mouthiness/biting, digging and staying calm when we see another dog (she REALLY wants to play with every dog she sees. It's frustrating). We go on daily walks. I play with her with toys. I give her food puzzles and do some basic training sessions. Nothing seems to calm her down.
I would like to add that we unfortunately had to say goodbye to our older golden this last Monday. He was a wonderful influence for her. Since we lost him her behavior seems to be so much worse. I've assumed it is part of her grieving.
I guess the point of this post is just for me to vent and seek any tips you guys have. She is crate trained and does wonderful with that, thankfully. There have been times during the day when I just need a 30 minute-1 hour break so I put her in there with a treat. I love her so SO much and would do absolutely anything for but whew she is putting my buttons.
