Hi! I’d appreciate all and any help!
I have a Lab x GSP, she’s 5 months old. She generally plays well with adult dogs, mostly wrestling or running with them, and will usually disengage and come when called. If they don’t want to play, she just follows them around or does her own thing.
When she’s playing with a puppy however, she is ruthless! The other puppy can be showing clear signs they don’t like it, and she will relentlessly persue them – chasing at full speed, biting their tail at full speed, nipping along their body – no loose, fun body language. (Obviously I intervene and put her back on the leash when she gets like this, let her calm down, then try again, but she always ramps it back up to super intense straight away).
I think one problem may be that many of the adult dogs she regularly plays with, are bigger than her and like to be chased. She is rarely the “chasee”, always the chaser. Her body language with these dogs seems to be a lot looser and more like respectful play.
How can I teach her to be more respectful and stop being such a bully? I don’t want this to be her adult play style, I want a dog that can adapt to the other dog and self handicap for nice play.
