Hi everyone!
We picked up our lab girl exactly 2 weeks ago, she turned 10 weeks yesterday. I wanted to check if there are any specific things we should be teaching her at this age, or anything we might be missing.
So far, she can:
• Sit, down, and paw, all without hand gestures (though “down” isn’t her favourite 😅).
• “Leave it” is about 95% solid now.
• We’re working on replacing biting with licking, we say “kisses” and then “yes!” when she does it, and she’s starting to offer kisses on cue (and not bite, most of the time!).
• “Stop” is a work in progress, especially when she’s mouthing or going after things she shouldn’t. She’ll pause, then try again 10 seconds later lol.
• She knows “in” when we’re in the garden, though she doesn’t always listen right away.
• Name recognition and recall (“come”) are going really well indoors.
We’ve started practicing everything in the garden now, but she gets a bit more distracted by all the smells and noises.
I’ve just started introducing “stay”, she’ll hold it for a few seconds, but if I move further away she follows me.
She’s okay in her crate, whines for a couple minutes then falls asleep. We’ve also left her in the kitchen alone for about an hour (while we popped to the shops) and she cried for 5 minutes then settled and napped on her bed.
We’ve been taking her out for socialisation too, coffee shops, parks, etc (carried of course, until she’s fully vaccinated).
Is there anything specific we should be teaching her at this stage? I just don’t want to miss anything important or put her at a disadvantage later on!
