  • Advice for potty training in cold/freezing temperatures (especially at night)? Will my puppy need a jacket?

    Hello all šŸ™‚

I am about to be a brand new dog owner so naturally im screaming and panicking and throwing things around trying to get myself organised for this puppy.

I live in the north of the Scotland and its getting quite cold lately. During the day its between 15 and 10 °c and at night it can go into the low singles.

I was wondering, as my puppy would need potty training, would he need a jacket to withstand the cold? I worry he will get too cold whilst outside and it will affect the potty progress.

Thank you for your help šŸ™‚

  • Excitement/submissive peeing?

What age did your dog stop doing this? We have a 15 week old lab mix that my husband takes to work. He said she does alot of excited pees when she greets his coworkers. She does it the odd time at home, but not as much.

I know she can't help it and I don't think anyone minds too much but it's just a lot of cleaning for him lol. I'm curious to know how long it might last or any other insights anyone might have.

  • Do you just let you puppy ā€œgoā€ in the play pen?

I have an almost 12 week havanese puppy and he’s been doing great with outdoor potty training so far! Runs to the door to signal when he has to go and very little accidents in the house so far

The only place he does ā€œaccidentallyā€ pee is while he’s in his play pen. I was hesitant to put pee pads bc of chewing and also I didn’t want to reinforce peeing on such soft material. The pen does have a kind of thick tarp under it so it’s manageable but I’m just wondering why this is / if it’s normal for them to just go in his pen?

Sometimes when I leave the playpen door open he’ll zoom out and still go to the door which I love / praise but sometimes he doesn’t and just stops and pees while staring at me lol

Is this normal / am I expecting too much from him lol he’s just been doing so well with potty in my head this feels like setback

  • Non-stop barking & neighbor complaints

I’ve got massive puppy blues these days. My 5 month Spanish Waterdog barks CONSTANTLY. I live in an apartment (located in Europe) and the neighbors have filed formal complaints against her barking and I don’t know how it is going to escalate. We work with a dog trainer who has given me some tips to reduce overstimulation (we were going on too many walks, spending too much time outside, not enough naps). She has rejected the crate completely, will sleep in it with the door open, but as soon as I close the door she goes crazy. So I’ve recently started attaching her leash to my desk and this helps her to settle down and sleep next to me while I work. This has helped, but my little girl still barks too much…especially whenever I’m cooking, in the evenings, and whenever she hears someone in the stairwell.

On top of that I’m dealing with a burn out and raising a puppy during that is really fucking hard. Not to mention, I wanted to get a 1-2 year old rescue but my girlfriend insisted on a puppy because she’s never had a dog before and didn’t think she could accept a rescue. Well…we broke up yesterday partly because she has decided that she can’t accept a dog in her life after all.

One of my neighbors today asked me ā€œhow long is this going to last?ā€ I don’t know, bitch…let me just ask my dog and see what she says šŸ™„ What my neighbors don’t seem to understand is how stressful it is for me…not just to be around the barking and trying to manage it, but also to be totally stressed about disrupting them.

I’m totally open to advice if someone has some about how you got barking under control or some reassurance that at some point it will get better.

  • Lighting up my chihuahua at night

Does anyone have suggestions for lights to put on my chihuahua's harness for night walks in winter? Basically, all are huge on her and their bouncing around irritates her. Light-up collars are ok but due to past owners, she is VERY skittish of anything around her neck. I have been using light-up arrow nocks, but was hoping there are some easier solutions.

  • european stores only please

so, i have a white boxer and his collar (stainless steel) left him stains (i guess it’s because it has crome or something) so i was wondering if any of you know a brand of collars and chains that doesn’t leave these stainds

  • In need of help, desperately for constant barking.

I could really use some advice. One of my family members who lives with me adopted a German Shepherd that no one else wanted. Unfortunately, she barks constantly, to the point that it’s creating a ton of tension at home and putting a real strain on my relationship with my gf.

She barks when people leave, and she barks even more when she’s put in her crate at night. He crates her because she doesn’t get along well with the other pets, but nighttime is the worst. She’ll bark frantically for 30 minutes or more, and it’s driving everyone crazy.

He’s already taken her to a trainer, but even they struggled to make progress. For a short while, things improved, but now she’s back to her old habits.

Has anyone dealt with something like this before? Any tips, methods, or recommendations would be so appreciated. I’m at my wit’s end and just want to help her (and all of us) find some peace.
