  • Resource guarding and pig ears.

So my 6 month old boy doesn’t resource guard anything EXCEPT for pig ears. I’m curious if most think it’s something that should be addressed and fixed or is it something that’s not that big of a deal as long as you are content to just leave him be when given a pig ear? Could it progress to other things if not addressed?

  • I had to leave the pup at home

I guess this is an update to my post yesterday about the dog with separation anxiety. Now I think I'm the one with the separation anxiety because she acted the same as she did the day before as I left (trying to chase me, pulling at the tie down and seeming scared) but I had to leave her. But now im here at work terrified that I am going to get back and she is going to be injured or god forbid dead and I can't focus. There's a hurt in the pit of my chest and I hate it. She should be alright but I cant help but get the feeling that she is in danger and I don't know what to do to help it

  • In what ways did your dog “mellow out” or “clam down” after adolescence?

I’m dealing with a slightly crazy 7-month adolescent cattle dog rott mix. I keep reading that around 18 months to 2 years, dogs start to mellow out or calm down. But what does that really mean? How did your dog’s behaviors change after adolescence? What are some examples of them “mellowing out”?

Do they start ignoring other dogs on walks better? Do they start ignoring other people? Are they less aroused by the environment?

  • Advice on what airlines to use to travel from madrid, Spain to Copenhagen, Denmark?

Bought 2 chow puppies from Spain and im trying to book flights from madrid to copenhagen airport for the middle of december when they're ready to travel. They'll be about 10kg each and unable to fly in the cabin i think as they will be too big. Any ideas?

  • Anyone else only had cats before getting a puppy?

I'm really questioning why I thought getting a dog was a good idea. I thought I wanted a dog. I did so much research and even made myself wait a year before going through with it and now it feels like I've selfishly imploded what's supposed to be my cat's golden years because I just had to have a puppy.

I grew up with dogs but as an adult, I've only had cats and I've never experienced blues like this. I'm trying not to compare them because they are two different species and my cat and I have had years to build a close bond while it's only been a couple weeks with the puppy.

On paper, she's everything I was looking for in a dog. A standard poodle that's going to grow to be on the smaller end of the standard size from calm parents with low prey drive.

Unfortunately, she gets excited and barks when she sees the cat and my cat constantly hisses at her. The only time my cat is fine is when she's asleep in her kennel.

I'm just worried about a lot of things now and second guessing myself. I'm worried she might end up having a prey drive and now my cat will never be safe in her home. I'm worried I'm actually a cat person and made a mistake getting a dog. I'm worried everything I'm doing is still not enough for my puppy because maybe she needs someone who's 100% a dog person to take care of her.

I'm hoping this is just standard puppy blues (she's only 10 weeks) and it'll get better but I'm also worried that maybe returning her to the breeder is the right thing to do and I'm avoiding the inevitable.

  • Puppy peeing a lot. Is it something I should be worried about?

Hello everyone. I just got a 4 month old Chihuahua (probably right at or almost 5 months now) from the shelter a few weeks ago. He’s super sweet (very hyper but super sweet) but he’s having some issues with potty training stuff. He’s gotten used to going outside and knows that outside is where he needs to go to the bathroom but if we don’t keep on top of taking him out every 30-45 minutes he pees in the house. I’ve read many different things and I’m kind of worried because I’ve read that it’s not normal and he could have a UTI and also that it is normal because he’s a puppy and he has a small bladder. If it’s any correlation he also poops a lot (like 5-8) times a day. He usually pees 2 or 3 times throughout the night so he can hold it for a little bit but if he’s roaming around the house even if we have just taken him out he goes and pees somewhere. I do also want to add that when he pees outside sometimes he pees more than once in a short amount of time. It’s almost like he doesn’t get it all out and then a few minutes later he goes again. This also makes it very hard to figure out when it’s actually time to go inside because if he pees once and I praise him and then he pees again right after we go inside I just don’t know how to deal with it. Any help would be appreciated.

P.S. he hasn’t been neutered yet. I don’t know if that makes a difference.

  • Daytime routine for pup

Hi all, just recently adopted a Labrador mix puppy. He’s sweet as can be. Seems to have some separation anxiety. Finally got him comfortable with his collar. I drive a bus AM and PM and work near my home during the day. Normal routine is wake up at 4:55 I take him out of his crate and take him out to do his duties for 5-10 minutes. I leave at 5:30 during which he is recrated and fed. I return at about 8:00 and play with him til 8:15 in which I have to be at work. I let him outside tied to a 40 ft lead during the day, there’s shade available and I’m normally within 200-400 ft from him. And I go in for lunch at 1:45 he comes in with me. I eat lunch and play with him for a few minutes and recrate and feed him a small snack for lunch. And I leave around 2:15 for my evening run. I normally return at 6 or so. He howls all day while he is tied outside. Will he get used to this or do I need to limit his time outside and recrate him? Or will he need to get used to being outside? Can’t let him roam around the entire house just yet as he’ll get into things. Just wanting to make sure I’m doing this right.
