  • Puppy wants to say hi to dogs but then cries/yelps once she does

Hi! I have a 6 month old puppy. She used to get very excited around other dogs and start sprinting around. Now when she sees a dog (mostly bigger dogs) she goes to say hi but then almost immediately yelps and cries like the other dog hurt her.

Is this just fear period? Or is there something else wrong.

    Thanks 🙂

  • Puppy teething advice

(Copied from my post in r/dogs)

Hoping to get some advice on managing puppy teething. I have a 12 week old puppy, and she’s in the throes of teething. I have plenty of chew toys for her, stuffed, kongs, and nylabones, but she always goes for other things, including myself. I’ve tried redirecting her to her toys countless times, putting some peanut butter on her kong and nylabone, but she gets bored and then goes to chew on my coffee table or on my feet. I’ve made yelping/OW noises when she tries to nibble on me, but I think she thinks I’m just playing with her. Any tips or better things I can give her? Is she too young to start having real bones or bully sticks? Thanks in advance!!!

  • Should I visit my dogs while boarding them?

    Hello all,

I need some input on this. I'm currently waiting to close on my house and my 2 dogs have been in boarding since the 24th of October. My closing has been pushed back until after November 7th. I called the boarder on the first night to see how they did and more recently to say that I had to extend their stay. The boarding staff said they're doing good and eating and drinking normally. I'm missing them a lot but I feel like if I visit them, they'll think they're leaving and they'll be upset when only I leave. Please give me some input on whether I should visit them.

  • New sleep schedule??

My puppy used to be great at sleeping through the night almost up until my alarm when off around 6:30-7am.

He's now 15 weeks old and he's up at 2am or 3am and then up at 5am for the day… What happened??? What can I do? I'm so exhausted that I'm dozing off at work…

  • Is my dog’s behavior picked up by his friend?

My 11mo golden plays 3 to 4 times a day off leash in my neighbors fence with his best friend Thor who is 10mo- sometimes Bailey (a 6mo puppy) all at the same time.

Thor and him play VERY rough, 0 boundaries and sometimes they just bite each other really hard. They tackle each other and rough play for probably 1.5 hours a day.

In fact when the 6mo pup gets in on it, they actually had blood all over each other because the puppy pulled out my dogs whisker and bit its own tongue.

Thor is a rescue who had a rough start with no mom and no siblings, so his social skills are a bit askew. He bites hard and shakes his head when they play.

I didn't give it much thought until my dog turned on me yesterday and did that same thing to me, he jumped on top of me (I am 4mo pregnant) and started biting me really hard (making the same demon faces he makes when he plays with Thor) and I could barely get him off of me it was really scary. I now have welts and bruises.

Should I stop him from playing with these dogs? I really need to fix this before the baby gets here (and no, I won't be leaving them by each other EVER. They will always be separated for the baby's safety)

Thanks for any advice, this is our first dog and I was devastated when this happened. It was honestly really scary.

  • Separation anxiety when leaving the house

Hoping for some guidance on helping my rescue pup gain the confidence to be alone! She is 6 months old and I just rescued her last week (she has been in the house for only 10 days), so I’m not sure if this truly is separation anxiety yet or just the start of it as she’s still adjusting to being in her forever home <3.

She sleeps through the night completely fine in her crate (alone in a different room in the house where she can still hear us); no whining unless she has to go outside to go potty (then we put her right back in the crate and she goes right back to sleep).

If we crate her and we leave the house, she goes crazy and won’t stop whining & pacing around in her cage. This happens both day and night (so even if it’s right at bed time and we put her in the crate like she’s going to bed, if she hears us leave she cries. Haven’t done this for more than 20 minutes as we didn’t want to traumatize her, so unsure if she would eventually settle after 30+ minutes maybe). Also, if I leave the house and she’s home with my partner (outside of the crate), she cries/paces for a short while but can eventually settle herself.

Long term I would LOVE to allow her to roam freely when we leave the house, but since she just nailed down potty training & given the above we aren’t ready to try that yet.

Any insight into if this is early stages of separation anxiety? If so, what should we start doing to help our pup thrive and gain confidence?
