Should I be worried?
I got my 8 week old miniature long haired Dachshund a week ago today. He’s just now coming out of his shell and getting used to everything – including my two dogs (Bassadore and Great Pyrenees mix). Although he’s been a little wild the past two days or so, overall things have gone fairly smooth (knocks on wood). I started crate and house training immediately. He’s only had 3 accidents in the house in a week and all my fault. He sleeps through the night other than one wake up in the middle of the night. I’m reading all these horror stories on here and it’s freaking me out a bit despite owning and training dogs my whole life and has me wondering – is this just the calm before the storm? Are others just not training and sticking to a routine as strict as I have been? Would love to hear some experience from people who were strict with training from day one and what your experience was weeks, months, years later. Thanks everyone!

Puppy Training: What Tricks Are You Trying to Teach First?
Hey everyone! So, I’ve got this little furball named Max, a 10-week-old Beagle, and I’m drowning in cuteness. 😍 I started with the basics like sit and stay, but I’m curious what other tricks people are teaching their puppies first. I’ve heard that ‘drop it’ is super useful for when he finds something gross on the floor. I’m also toying with the idea of teaching him to shake hands because… why not? 😂 What’s been working for you guys? Any ones that are surprisingly easy or harder than expected? Let’s swap some training stories!

Help! He won’t stop humping
This is my first time with a male puppy. He is 7 months old, not fixed.
He is constantly humping my 2 year old spayed female poodle!
He won't stay off of her.
I'm trying to redirect him but omg it's constant
I didn't plan on having him neutered until he is 2 years old as I heard that's best for a Siberian Husky but I'm losing my mind here.

Dog sitting fearful dog
Hi! I’m currently dog sitting for somebody with two dogs, one of which has been alarm barking constantly the past two times that I’ve visited to take care of them. I asked them for advice and they told me to avoid eye contact and try the ‘treat retreat’ game to get him comfortable. I haven’t been making eye contact, and have been throwing treats away from myself for him for about half an hour. The second I run out of treats he begins barking again and I have to get more. I don’t know how long I have to do this or how many treats is okay to give him, but I’m unsure of what to do besides this.

If I take my dog for a short walk before evening feed, should I after?
Totally random, just I have a 3 year old BC and I worked out a pattern with her that she never has accidents if I take her out to a large patch of grass about 2 or 3 minutes away after her feed and she always has a pee and tries to poop but often it's a tiny amount.
Especially now the clocks have gone back she wants out around 3 or 4pm and it feels like a waste to take her into garden for a pee if a hour sometimes less later she is getting a proper walk.
And in case people think I am being lazy, I have a set of stairs between my home and front door and my garden is at back of my home and I have issues with my legs after badly breaking one last year that made me housebound for months and my other ankle this year and on meds for them and use a walking stick.
If I lived in a normal house i'd just let her out multiple times and still take her on regular walk.

Megathread: Pet Insurance
Which pet insurance is best for you? Are there any that may cover your dog's current treatment? Did your dog get injured during the waiting period and want to know if you're covered?
Here's the place to ask.
Do know we cannot help you here with medical concerns, and lying or not disclosing things to the insurance company is illegal so we don't allow that either.

Megathread: Why Does My Dog Do That?
Does your dog turn his head when he hears an odd noise? Does your dog bury their food with your pants? This is the thread to ask why.
Please keep this thread to non-medical issues only.
